Description
Achillea ‘Noblessa’, also known as sneezewort ‘Noblessa’, is a refined and compact perennial that brings elegance and ecological value to borders, containers, and wildflower-style plantings. A cultivated form of Achillea ptarmica, this variety is celebrated for its neat habit, prolific flowering, and wildlife-friendly appeal.
Achillea ‘Noblessa’ typically reaches a height of 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) and spreads to around 30–40 cm (12–16 inches), forming a tidy mound of finely divided, grey-green foliage. The leaves are soft and slightly aromatic, providing a delicate backdrop to the profusion of double white flowers that bloom from late spring into early autumn. These button-like blooms resemble miniature pom-poms and are borne on upright stems, creating a frothy, cloud-like effect that softens planting schemes and adds movement.
Flowering from May to September, Achillea ‘Noblessa’ is a magnet for pollinators, especially hoverflies and bees, making it a valuable addition to wildlife gardens. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a range of conditions including light clay, loam, or sandy substrates. Its drought tolerance and resistance to browsing by deer and rabbits make it a reliable choice for low-maintenance or exposed sites.
This cultivar is ideal for cottage gardens, gravel gardens, and naturalistic borders, where its gentle colour and compact form can be used to weave between taller perennials or soften hard edges. It also performs well in containers, offering long-lasting interest and easy care. Deadheading encourages repeat flowering, while cutting back in autumn helps maintain its compact shape.
Also suitable for cutting and drying, ‘Noblessa’ retains its form and colour well, making it a charming addition to floral arrangements. Whether used as a front-of-border accent or a pollinator-friendly filler, Achillea ‘Noblessa’ delivers both beauty and ecological benefit in a modest footprint.
